What is the research behind the Asymptomatic Waldenström Macroglobulinemia risk levels shown in this tool?

The purpose of this risk score calculator is to help physicians improve the management of AWM patients. (AWM = Asymptomatic Waldenström Macroglobulinemia.)

The calculator helps patients and clinicians by:

• Identifying which patients need closer follow-up
• Distinguishing people who need early intervention from those who do not
• Providing a resource to easily convert statistical patient data into a simple and meaningful layout that can be shared with and understood by anyone, regardless of medical knowledge

The calculator development team also facilitates the design and implementation of clinical trials in the hopes of preventing disease progression, reducing risks of end-organ damage and improving patient outcomes for people with AWM.

The Median Time to Progression means that 50% of the patients in this risk group became symptomatic within the time frame shown, while the other 50% remained symptom-free in the same time frame. These risk categories and time to progression are based on the largest study to date of patients with AWM.
